Nephrology Fellowship Program
The Johns Hopkins Nephrology Fellowship Training Program is one the nation’s premier training programs in academic and clinical Nephrology. The Program produces clinically outstanding nephrologists, internationally recognized clinical and basic scientists, and innovative medical educators.
It is our mission to be an inclusive Program with broad diversity that excels in rigorous clinical training, knowledge discovery, and career development for the next generations of nephrologists. The Program is an international leader in training academic nephrologists capable of meaningfully improving human health.
Program Overview
The Johns Hopkins Nephrology Fellowship Program is overseen by the Office of Graduate Medical Education at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Rotations occur at the Johns Hopkins Hospital, Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center, outpatient clinics, dialysis centers, and interventional radiology centers.
The program requires at least 2 years of training in one of four primary tracks:
- Clinical/Epidemiological Investigation
- Clinician Education
- Basic Science
- Clinical Practice
Training opportunities are potentially available to highly qualified candidates in:
- Bioengineering Innovation & Design
- Clinical Pharmacology
- Global Health
- Glomerular Diseases
The first year is dedicated to clinical training through inpatient consultation services, inpatient renal transplantation service, weekly outpatient continuity clinic, kidney biopsy and temporary hemodialysis access placement, POCUS training, and several elective opportunities. The second and optional third year are designed to further develop and hone clinical, educational, and research skills with an emphasis guided by the fellow’s career goals. The Hopkins program has a 100% NRMP match rate.
