A Comprehensive Evidence-Informed Series
This in-person education series created and presented by the Johns Hopkins Orthopaedic Physical Therapy Residency faculty focuses on current concepts and evidence-informed approaches to providing optimal care to patients with musculoskeletal conditions. Whether you are looking for residency didactic, prepping for the Orthopaedic Specialty Exam or seeking to improve your orthopaedic clinical acumen, this programming is for you. The series includes four modules presented in person once a month (August, September, October and November) over three days. Participants can choose to take any number of modules or register for the entire series and receive a significant discount.

Module 1: Application of Clinical Practice Guidelines for the Management of Musculoskeletal Conditions affecting the Lumbar Spine and Pelvis
This module will focus on the examination and treatment of musculoskeletal disorders in the lumbopelvic region. Based on the Low Back Pain Clinical Practice Guidelines, we will explore examination and treatment techniques for each low back pain classification. Clinicians will have the opportunity to practice evaluative and treatment techniques including but not limited to segmental mobility assessment, soft tissue palpation, neurodynamic assessment, movement assessment and re-education, manual therapy interventions, exercise prescription and motivational interviewing skills.

Module 2: Application of Clinical Practice Guidelines for the Management of Lower Quarter Musculoskeletal Conditions
This module will be a combination of lectures and labs presenting current evidence-based practice for rehabilitation of the lower extremity and associated common musculoskeletal conditions of the hip, knee, ankle and foot. Engages in critical thinking and detailed discussions on the current APTA clinical practice guidelines as well as other pertinent research literature. Clinicians will have the opportunity to practice hands-on skills including evaluative techniques, joint play assessment, soft tissue palpation, lower extremity neurodynamic assessment, manual therapy interventions and prescriptive exercise programs.

Module 3: Application of Clinical Practice Guidelines for the Management of Musculoskeletal Conditions affecting the Cervical and Thoracic Spines
This module will focus on the examination and treatment of musculoskeletal disorders in the cervical and thoracic spine regions. Based on the Neck Pain Clinical Practice Guidelines, we will utilize the ICF Model to examine, diagnose and provide treatment for patients with cervicothoracic pain. This module will be a combination of lecture and lab and will include instruction on specific examination and treatment techniques as well as a review of the evidence surrounding the use of these techniques.

Module 4: Application of Clinical Practice Guidelines for the Management of Upper Quarter Musculoskeletal Conditions
This module will be a combination of lectures and labs presenting current evidence-based practice for rehabilitation of the upper extremity with common musculoskeletal conditions including pain, traumatic injury and surgery. The lectures will cover current research evidence on best practices in the evaluation and treatment of the upper extremity including the shoulder, elbow, wrist and hand. This includes a detailed discussion of the current clinical practice guidelines as well as other pertinent research literature. The lab portion will focus on instruction and participant practice of hands-on skills including evaluation techniques, diagnostic clusters, relevant anatomy review, joint play assessment, soft tissue palpation, upper extremity neurodynamic assessment, manual therapy interventions, nerve mobilization and prescriptive exercise programs.
